Our Eco-Mission

Mission - Green Background Logos

Let us drink to a greener world for our grandchildren, and their grandchildren...

There are over 170 million tonnes of plastic waste currently in our oceans, with 8-14 million more tonnes being added every year. More than 8 million pieces of plastic pollution are dumped into our oceans on a daily basis, that works out to an entire garbage truck’s worth of plastic every minute. Nearly 300,000 tonnes of plastic are floating on the ocean surface, which is less than 1% of all marine plastic. Plastic waste can be found polluting parts of the ocean over 11km deep, in the most remote parts of the planet. Over 1 million sea birds and 100,000 marine animals are killed every year by plastic pollution, and 1 in 3 fish caught has plastic in its stomach. With countries like the US using 50 million plastic straws every day, and the UK throwing away 4.5 billion plastic straws every year, there are as many as 9 billion straws currently polluting coastlines around the world. There are many tens of billions more straws floating in the ocean, posing a serious threat to the lives of marine animals and sea birds. As well as this, these straws disrupt the marine ecosystems that play a vital role is controlling the climate all around the world.

Mission - Girl using Black Straw in Hot Drink

...doing our bit to help the environment.

These statistics terrify us, which is why we are doing our bit to help bring an end to the plastic pollution problem. We care about our environment, and we care about protecting it. We do not want a future where plastic continues to devastate our oceans and our landscapes. A key element in achieving such a future is to find alternative sustainable materials for products that are typically manufactured from plastic. Industries do not need to be dependent on plastic. That is where we come in.

Plastic straws will on average only be used for a few minutes each, but they take centuries to breakdown. Given that plastic straws are among the top ten worst offenders for ocean pollution, we are here to offer an alternative. Our straws are 100% recyclable, compostable and biodegradable. They are made using No Plastic, Just Paper. We manufacture our own straws from sustainably sourced food grade kraft paper in our factory in Dublin. They are coated in lacquer to ensure they hold their shape and t. We also source our packaging from our Irish supply partner, rather than importing from abroad, to reduce the emissions from unnecessary haulage. Our sustainably sourced and manufactured paper straws are a fully recyclable and biodegradable alternative to plastic straws, which pose none of the threats to wildlife or the environment that plastic does.

  • Biodegradable straws

At JBX PaperPak, our business model centres around safeguarding the environment from current industrial practices. Plastic dependency is a major concern across all major industries; as a result, plastic pollution is one of the biggest issues facing our planet today. Even a small piece of plastic will take centuries to biodegrade and with so much plastic ending up in landfill or in the ocean, this is not a problem that will solve itself. Our paper straws are a simple yet powerful solution to this growing problem.

  • Compostable straws

At JBX PaperPak, we make it our business to protect the environment. Plastic pollution is one of the most serious problems facing the planet, and plastic straws are among the top ten worst offenders. We are all about finding the best plastic-free alternatives to help relieve the ecological stress that plastic pollution is causing. We manufacture our own paper straws in our factory in Ireland and so we know everything that goes into the process. JBX is committed to helping shift industry into a future that is not dependent on plastic, that’s why the straws we make are fully compostable.
