Single-Use Plastic Straws Are Now Illegal

Mission - Green Background Logos

From today, October 1st 2020, the ban on single-use plastic straws comes into effect across the UK. It is now illegal to buy or sell single-use plastic straws, as well as for businesses to offer them to customers. The plans for this ban were confirmed in May 2019, though it was originally intended to be implemented from April 2020.

The initial April date for the ban was postponed due to concerns from the government that the pandemic would mean the supply of non-plastic straws could not meet the demand. There was speculation that there would be another delay as the uncertainty around the pandemic continued. However, much to the joy of JBX PaperPak, these rumours were proven wrong and the ban has gone ahead.

This is terrific news for the sustainable economic model that we are working hard to achieve; biodegradable and plastic-free alternatives are set to take over. JBX PaperPak paper straws are made from 3-ply premium-quality food grade kraft paper and are of unparalleled quality. Our straws are 100% recyclable, compostable and biodegradable – as well as being 100% plastic-free. JBX is the perfect choice for future-proofing your business and making sure that you are both adherent to new regulations and conducting business as ethically as possible.

Our paper straws are made by stacking 3 plies of high-quality food grade kraft paper and putting them through a core-winding machine that applies an adhesive and rolls the straws into shape. They are then cut to size, coated in lacquer to ensure quality and are then ready to be sold.
